In this workshop, the task was to use a guide to create a character on the default 3/4 position.

I started by using 8 equal circles, this helped to create the right body proportions with the help of a guide I was able to make a body using shapes before turning it to the side. I used a different colour to help myself distinguish between the circles and the body I drew on top.

When I got to the end where I designed a character, I used the previous layer and copied it onto a new layer, and drew over the top of it.

I used a couple of references but I decided to go with a witchy character since I found some inspiration from Pinterest and used images of ruffles to help with the clothing.

Shapes and Line of Action

After doing the task I decided to look at a few references and practice looking at where the line of action is and the shapes that are on the body.

In each of these pictures, I looked at the foot placement and whereabouts the gravity is, and where they are leaning; This helped me to distinguish the line of action.

This next bit was a little challenging for the second image as I’m used to the chest being either square or triangle but because she is hunched over it created an oval.

What was challenging?

I found this task quite straightforward but I did have a couple of struggles such as body proportion and making it realistic, this is because I didn’t use a body reference when I was doing the task and it made it a little harder to make the shoulders look natural so I ended up spending a bit longer on it when I could’ve helped myself out a bit by using a reference.

I also found drawing the joints a bit challenging as it never felt in proportion to the rest of the body.

I did go back and look at some references to practice the line of action and look at the shapes that the body has.
