Blocking out environment

A couple of main ideas I had for creating my environment was to take my idea and to try and put them in different places to see what looks best.

I included the basic bits of what I want to include in the design and when I start creating it I may move things about a bit but I will add things in when necessary.

I wanted to have the entrance for introducing the design as a stream or river and a small bridge to go over it and have the rest of it covered by trees. Since there has to be a centerpiece that has been made in the other module I have tried a few things in these designs mostly trying to keep it as the first thing you see.

Since this was the first design I came up with I thought that it was going to be the one I picked as I had this image in my mind as to what I wanted it to be set out like but I ended up picking the last one I did as it felt the most fitting.

The only problem I found with this one and what a friend said as well was that the centerpiece is too close to the cabin and would blend into each other when they should complement each other as separate bits.

This was the “worst one” as it was sort of what I had in mind but I didn’t exactly keep in mind the surrounding area.

I did ask a friend for some feedback on all of them and I agreed with what they had to say, for this one they said that the space on the left was too empty it felt weird to look at, I did notice that the composition of this design was too open and felt more inviting so it wouldn’t feel creepy enough and the snow would probably add to more of a fantasy environment which is the opposite of what I want to go for. Another point was that you saw the cabin first when you enter from the bridge and I wanted the centerpiece to be the first thing the camera will see so either I would move it or the design just isn’t the right one.

This was my favourite design as I feel that it got all of the points I wanted including having the centerpiece be introduced first from the bridge and then the cabin, they are both separate and the cabin would feel more overgrown and more in the background surrounded by trees.

I started with this layout, by creating a landscape and using the sculpt tools to make the terrain a bit bumpy but not too much to make it look natural I then placed a couple of blocks and moved them to the places I need them to be in so I could create the surrounding area first.

To be able to use the water feature I had to go into the plugins and tick both of the plugins for water which, meant I could add a stream to the environment.

I decided to use perspective to my advantage so I didn’t have to waste space in the environment and slow it down when I am recording it. I added some snow, a bridge, and some trees I found in quixel bridge which has helped to build a pathway of how I am going to record key shots of the environment.

The last bit of blocking I did was add trees in the background, which aren’t as efficient as I want them to be but serve as a blocking tool for now.
